The County of Sussex in South East England
|
The beautiful and diverse county of Sussex on the South Coast of England, UK, covers an area of approximately 1,460 square miles and has a total population of about 1,500,000.
The historical county is now made up of three administrative areas namely: West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Unitary Authority.
|
Brighton and Hove became a city in the year 2000 and is one of England's oldest and largest seaside resorts by population. Before 2000, Chichester was the only city in Sussex.
The Countryside
The Sussex countryside is ideal for walking, cycling, horse riding and days out exploring. It's landscape contains all the interest of the high ridges of the South Downs and the Weald, the vales and valleys running down to the coastal flatlands, the woods and remains of ancient forests, its winding rivers and natural harbours, towering chalk cliffs and sandy and shingle beaches, make it a delightful place to visit.
Sussex Towns and Villages
Most of Sussex's larger towns are seaside resorts on the South Coast. They include the city of Brighton & Hove, which is a Unitary Authority, forms the largest conurbation in the county, and is the most highly populated seaside attraction in England.
Other popular seaside resorts include Worthing, Eastbourne, Hastings, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Bexhill-on-Sea. Many have excellent shopping centres and attractions with restaurants, bars, hotels and guest houses. Local theatres and popular venues offer a full what's on of entertainment and events for adults, families and kids.
Major inland towns include Crawley, Horsham, Burgess Hill, East Grinstead, and the City of Chichester.

Country Pubs
Sussex abounds with traditional English olde worlde country pubs and inns, offering a warm, friendly welcome to tourists, walkers, ramblers, cyclists, families and children.
Whether you are a winter walker looking for a refreshment stop or a cosy pub meal by a roaring open fire, or you are out and about on a summers day wanting the perfect place for the family to eat, have a few drinks outdoors in pleasant surroundings while letting the kids roam free and play in a safe garden environment, there are many Sussex pubs to suit your needs.
District Councils
If you live in Sussex or are planning to move or stay there for any length of time, you will sooner or later have need to contact your local council.
Councils do more than just administer council tax, look after the roads and collect your rubbish. They provide residents and visitors with a massive range of information and advice about local amenities and services, including private businesses, parks, public spaces, museums, libraries, theatres and other attractions.
Councils also organize and publicize many events within the area and publish comprehensive What's On lists and other useful information on their websites.
